Stroke....Get help ? F.A.S.T. A SIMPLE two-minute check could help save the lives of stroke victims.
The so-called FAST test can be used by bystanders to see if someone has suffered a brain clot. *F* is for facial weakness. Ask the suspected victim to smile broadly so you can see their teeth. Check if one side of the mouth has drooped or if there is any droopiness around one eye. *A* is for arm weakness. Get them to try to raise both their arms so they are outstretched. Strokes often cut off messages sent from the brain to one side of the body, so they may find it a real struggle to lift up one of their arms. *S *is for speech. Get them to state their name and address as clearly as they can. If their speech is slurred or they are difficult to understand, it could be a sign of stroke. *T* is for test. Do all three tests again. If the person has failed any of them, call 999 immediately. The Stroke Association says even if symptoms disappear after a few minutes, still get help. It warns: ?Symptoms may only last a few minutes and can completely go within 24 hours. Don?t ignore it.
