The only non-required thing I did during installation was to call
nixos-checkout (as the manual suggests).
Yes, just yesterday we switched Nixpkgs to use the new Berkeley DB-free
branch of Nix. (And I made a screwup: the version in Nixpkgs didn't
have support for converting old schemas. This has been fixed now.)
Excellent! I've installed using the new ISO and everything comes up fine
now.
