But in the end in which way does nix differ from rpms or homebrew etc?
Nix allows having multiple versions of the same package, except that
there is not a big difference.. That's why once you can generate nix
derivations it should be possible to build rpms eventually.
Of course for the "nix store" programs are more likely to work due to
the "every tool knowns about its own dependencies" strategy.

So of course we basically do agree.
