I am "long gone" from Vanderbilt and the Nashville area, but I completely agree with you. I think your best course of action would be to find a Comp Sci (or Physics, Math, Engineering, etc) graduate student, hopefully already active in NLUG, who would bridge the gap for you and be the primary point of contact for arranging the meeting location etc. Since you're an off-campus group, it will probably be a little tricky to get the room yourself (without some significant costs). I don't suppose there's someone already on the list who fits this description? If not, you'll need to do some recruiting on campus, perhaps print up a bunch of fliers and post them in the usual places.
