Perhaps a dumb question, but why are you considering upgrading to CentOS 6?
CentOS 5 has a LONG supported life, since it is based on RHEL 5 and
RedHat is supporting RHEL 5 until March 31, 2017.

Not a dumb question at all. I appreciate knowing about the support
cycle. Haven't gotten up to speed on that item. I had made the case
for staying within the v5 release which would mean CentOS 5.8. I don't
know the specific dependency issues that are requiring this uprev.
When I saw that the target system was RHEL 5.2 and not CentOS 5.2, I
opened the conversation. CentOS 5.8 should be fine so long as migrating
from RHEL 5.2 doesn't gone down in flames. Oh but I wish it were a vm
so I could try the migration with a point of return.
