Okay, I've been beating my head, hard, all afternoon trying to get hplip
to work on CentOS 5.7. Hewlett Packard has some, um, interesting ideas
about turning off a security protocol (SELinux) just to run a printer...
This customer has another printer, a Canon network spaceship, that any
time we stop and start CUPS, the Canon comes up disabled. A simple
cupsenable <printername> brings it to life but the fundamental question
is "why is this printer, and only this printer, disabled when CUPS
restarts?"
