To follow up on what everyone else has said, besides learning basic
bash/perl scripting I would recommend learning how to use a configuration
management tool like cf-engine, puppet or chef. I have not touched
cf-engine 3, but both puppet and chef are Ruby based, as is most of the
"devOps" tool chain, so having a strong familiarity with Ruby will help you
in the long run, especially if you are interested working for any of the
"cool" startups.

Of course, to be able to codify, in a configuration management tool, the
set up of a web server, LDAP server, database server, etc, you need to have
the knowledge and experience to do it manually, so you can't skip learning
how to do these things.

A final piece of advice, don't become a linux bigot. There are lots and
lots of companies that depend on AIX, HP-UX or Solaris for their day to day
operations and they are fine places to work.
