The article / page states that the Edison CPU/SOC will use 1/10th the power
of the current Atom SOC.  The current batch of Atom SOCs use 5-10 watts so
the Edison should use 0.5-1.0 watts, quite a significant savings.  Yes, the
current wearables are much faster but also much more power hungry.

Disclaimer: Power ratings are CLAIMED by Intel, no real world numbers yet.
