If I remember correctly, openstack uses HP's cloud to do testing. They spin up 
all the components in the cloud to run whatever tests they need before 
destroying it.

Only problem for you would be that openstack is really a ton of different 
options. The idea that they want to be the linux of cloud computing is very 
evident in that almost every component is swappable with one from a different 
vendor. 

You can spin up a openstack system on a single box with enough ram and drive 
space. And for as much as a job interview is concerned, you might get lucky and 
know the underlying individual parts they are using, but familiarity with the 
outer wrapper that is openstack probably is the best thing to spend time 
understanding.
