Please excuse my ignorance, but what is setgid and why does it mean
strace wouldn't work?

I couldn't find a core file. Where should it end up --- in the
directory that inc was run from? It's not there. (Nor could I find
it anywhere else.)

Okay, I've done this and included inc.trace, using X-uuencode. I'll also
include the mail file again using X-uuencode, just in case last time something
was mucked up in the file transfer.
Thanks for your help,

Ron Schooler asked:
"Dr. Van Til, how do you account for homosexuality within the gifted
creation? Is
it a part of the "gift" or a result of sin? What have you sceintists to say
about homosexuality and the Christian (as a scientist) response to it?"
Making no pretense to have the final answer.... I would say that, given
the full spectrum of gifts that the Creation has been provided with,
homosexuality is one potentiality that is likely to be actualized. I
presume it appeared in the animal world long before the presence of humans
capable of conscious disobediance. If that is the case, then our response
needs to be guided both by such scientific knowledge and by our calling to
love God above all, and our neighbor as ourselves.

Is there anyway I can get xscreensaver to run all the time?
It works fine from my .xsession file, but I can't get it to work
from xdm. I want the screensaver to be present at all times,even
if no one is logged in (and I don't need screen locking).
I tried following the directions in xscreensaver's man page - so
I put the following line in Xsetup and Xsetup_0:
xscreensaver >> /tmp/xscreensaver.log 2>&1 &
The file /tmp/xscrensaver.log contains the following after restarting xdm:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
Error: Can't open display: :0
Obviously this is problem with getting access to the display. How do
I get around this?

The server 'send' command references the incoming ip-port address, and
completes successfully, but no, I'm not exactly sure that the datagram makes
it back to the Debian box.
Is there a simple way for me to verify that a datagram came back (i/o count
or something)?

Are you sure your server is replying with a correct destination port? The
server needs
to send a packet back to the same port which the client used.

Hello,
Somehow I have got my Netscape so that it fails to show text files. I
have tried to change in preferences the application, it is now view
(see below what view is on my system), but I have tried less and ae
also.
$ which view
/usr/bin/view
tale@dilbert ~/Work/Debian-doc/Tutorial
$ ls -l /usr/bin/view
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Mar 26 1998 /usr/bin/view ->
/etc/alternatives/vie
w
tale@dilbert ~/Work/Debian-doc/Tutorial
$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/view
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jan 11 23:21 /etc/alternatives/view ->
/usr/bin/les
s
tale@dilbert ~/Work/Debian-doc/Tutorial
$
Those files that are html or some other type that Netscape figures
out, are shown OK, but ftp://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/README.non-US
for example is not. I have checked with chimera2, it can show these
problem files. Netscape pops ups a dialog box with title
Netscape: subprocess diagnostics (stdout/stderr)
then the beginning of the text in the file and:
<<stderr diagnostics have been truncated >>
I don't understand what Netscape is doing, and have failed to correct
this. Even tried different Netscape versions, but looks like my
configuration is in error so changing versions has no effect.
What to do?

I had Hamm previously installed on my laptop, which is for the record
a Toshiba T4400C. I want to go back to DOS. I've tried to go back to
DOS by repartitioning in Linux so that I only have 1 partition which
is the C drive...and that's a DOS FAT16 (big) partition. Now when I
then go into DOS fdisk, and try to parition it there. It'll reboot
but then it will NOT change ANY partition information. It's like it's
locked like that. And then when I reformat drive C with Dos format,
it'll reformat (using the /s option) so that i can get the system
transferred properly, then when I reboot, my computer will not boot
from the hard drive at all. It'll just lock up. And I have tried
clean operating systems so I know it's not the disks. What do I have
to do to be able to boot from DOS 6.22 once again, without any linux
stuff on my HD? Thanks much!
