I think I fixed it - I created a .mh_sequences file with :
unseen:
in it (creating an empty sequence, instead of an empty .mh_sequences
file) and that seems to have worked. I still don't understand where my
sequences went before, or why they weren't recreated properly when I
removed .mh_sequences.
