I'm not a programmer, so I don't know or understand any of this. I did amaze myself by including the script in my ~/.emacs file without emacs giving me an error but it doesn't actually seem to do anything.
Perhaps I will try ken's suggestion. I do appreciate your taking the time to try to help.
