1st Annual PaSiPHIC (Pacific Coast Statisticians and Pharmacometricians
Innovation Conference) -- Narrowing the distribution between stochastic
scientists by bringing Statisticians and Pharmacometricians together

Event Dates: Monday June 14 - Wednesday June 16

Keynote Speakers:
Joga Gobburu - Director of Pharmacometrics at the Food and Drug
Administration
Stephen Senn - Professor at the University of Glasgow Department of
Statistics

Traditionally, biostatistics has played a central role in assuring
validity of pharmaceutical testing by formalizing the rigorous empirical
analysis, summarization and statistical interpretation of experimental
and observational data. The emerging science of pharmacometrics,
building on the biostatistical traditions, provides additional powerful
approaches for mechanistic quantification of the various aspects of drug
therapy, including efficacy, safety, clinical pharmacology, variability
among patients and the influence of pharmacotherapy on disease progress.
Both statistics and pharmacometrics interface with other scientific
areas such as biology and physiology, engineering, mathematics and
computer science and, while sharing several commonalities between
themselves, they have evolved as complementary disciplines. The purpose
of this conference is to provide statisticians and pharmacometricians a
forum to share pertinent information concerning the application of these
disciplines to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and
translational research in biomedical sciences.

The conference will include both introductory and advanced information,
appropriate for both beginners and experts. The preliminary program
includes brief tutorials on the sciences of statistics and
pharmacometrics, as well as scientific sessions organized by experts in
the field, including: Benefits from Pharmacometrics; Drug Safety and
Pharmacometrics; Inference from Multiple Data Sources; Handling
Incomplete Information; Impact of Emerging Technologies on PK-PD; Case
Studies: Pharmacometricians and Statisticians Working in Partnership;
Increasing Flexibility in Model Building; and Career Development for
Pharmacometricians and Statisticians.

Participants will be able to choose to attend 2 of 4 brief tutorials
(each 3 hours in length.) Instructors for these tutorials include

A Statistics Primer for Pharmacometricians (or Things You May Have
Missed in Your Statistics Education That May Be Useful)
Brian Smith - Biostatistics Director, Amgen, Inc.
