The Pharmacometrics/Modeling and Simulation (M&S) discipline within the
Translational and Clinical Pharmacology group at Allergan (Irvine, CA) is
seeking a summer intern for 2017. The incumbent will be working under the
direction of an M&S scientist on data mining and data visualization with intent
to develop a predictive ocular PBPK model to support research and translational
science. The incumbent will be interacting closely with ADME scientists and
clinical pharmacologists to mine and collect internal and literature ocular PK
data. The ideal candidate is preferred to be enrolling in a doctoral or
master's program in one of the following disciplines: pharmacokinetics,
pharmacometrics, pharmaceutical sciences, biostatistics, data programming or
mathematics. Experience in the following areas, though not strictly required,
is a plus: PBPK modelling, NONMEM, WinNonlin, SAS and/or R programming. This
is an opportunity for the intern to gain exposure to modelling and simulation
within a pharmaceutical industry setting.

The employee must conduct their work activities in compliance with all relevant
laws, regulations, and regulatory guidelines as well as all Allergan policies
and procedures.

Main Areas of Responsibilities
* Mining Allergan internal, and if necessary, literature ocular PK data
in various preclinical species and potentially human
* Organize and program datasets to make them amendable for modeling
* Perform data visualization for hypothesis testing
* Perform data analysis using WinNonlin to calculate various PK
parameters in ocular tissues
* Create centralized repository folders to store these data
* Depending on the incumbent's skillset, develop a predictive PBPK
model with the intent to provide recommendations for animal use reduction and
cost savings
* Present data to group and symposium at the end of the program
* In addition, the incumbent is the key contact for Pharmacometrics,
and ADME scientists.
* The incumbent may attend project team and group meetings to gain
industry/project-support experience
* In addition, the incumbent is the key contact for Clinical
Pharmacologists.

Qualifications
* B.S. or equivalent degree is required
* The ideal candidate is preferred to be enrolled in a doctoral or
master's program in one of the following disciplines: pharmacokinetics,
pharmacometrics, pharmaceutical sciences, biostatistics, data programming or
mathematics.
* Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited university
and in good academic standing.
* Must have valid U.S. work authorization without the need for
sponsorship by the company.
* Must be able to work full-time for 10-12 weeks for the duration of the
