A couple months ago I needed a way for a user to test a VPN's speed at their leisure and while preforming their tasks. It's also been very helpful in a WAN project at work. I figured the simplest way would be a HTTP speed test. I couldn't really find anything quickly besides http://speedof.me, but it required sending an email to the others and, more importantly, a server running PHP which was out of the question for my needs. Since I was starting to dabble more and more into node, I figured it might just be the solution to running code pretty much anywhere for quick testing of network speeds.
There still a lot I'd like to do to make it as "pretty" as speedof.me, but that's a while away as I'm more concerned about functionality now. If you guys could pat me on the back and say "great job" or, more preferably, "you shouldn't be doing X you idiot, do Y instead". I'd be much obliged.
