I referenced some of our conclusions about this in a previous thread<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/nodejs/k0jf4RIVT7E/discussion>, but have recently put up a blog post with a bunch of details and performance comparisons between HAProxy, Nginx, Stud, Node.js (both Express and a custom server), and Apache, which is how we decided to go with HAProxy -> Stud -> Node.js for SSL termination on our WebSockets-requiring app, Cloud Party. If there's enough interest, I might do a follow-up with all of the configuration details needed to walk someone through setting up something similar.
