Raipur, Sep 10 (IANS) Five tribal students of a government-run school
in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district have been suspended for ragging after
over a dozen junior students complained that they were forced by the
seniors to stroll naked in the hostel complex and beaten, an official
said.

The five suspended students were studying in Class 10. The school
authorities suspended them late Wednesday night based on prima facie
evidence that they would force some students of Class 6 and 7 to walk
naked in the hostel campus and also beat them regularly, a senior
official of the tribal welfare department told IANS Thursday.

The hostel is located in the complex of Bharti Higher Secondary School
in Govindpur locality of Kanker town, about 150 km south of capital
Raipur. Over 54 hostel students, including 50 tribal students, are
enrolled in the school.

The source said that the hostel superintendent has also been placed
under suspension for overlooking the ragging episode.

The juniors were allegedly being ragged for several weeks but it came
to light only on Sep 6 when a few victims went to their native village
on leave and complained to their parents.
