Dear Ankur, As far as I know before Bhaswati came to Parijat, there was Promona Sengupta. She was there when Dhaujee Kelly was at Parijat.
She came to Parijat to teach Art & Painting to the students. Promona was a B.A final year student from Lady Shree Ram College, Delhi and stayed for 27 days. http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/details.asp?id=jun2209/City2 This year in March when I visited Parijat, I met an young yoga teacher from the USA who also stayed a few days at Parijat. Last month two visitors arrived at Parijat. Antonio Borges from Portugal and Tim Aline Rebeaud from Vietnam. I have uploaded their images to the Picasa album of Parijat. (http://picasaweb.google.com/Parijat.Academy/VolunteeringAtParijatAcademy# <http://picasaweb.google.com/Parijat.Academy/VolunteeringAtParijatAcademy> ). I understand that next month Parijat will get another volunteer from USA. I was corresponding with a Charter Accountant from UK who plans to visit Parijat in December. He will do volunteering for a few days. As you can see Uttam is doing a great job. First exposing the children and the staff to international audience - which itself is unique and secondly which is also very important - presenting Assam to the outside world - which, as far as I know, so far none of us is able to deliver. The volunteers are also "foreign tourist" carrying memories of their stay at Parijat and Assam. But it did not deter to complete her mission. So far , a number of individuals outside India and Assam came and participated as volunteer at Parijat including Dhaujee Kelly from Baltimore, USA, Margaret W. Andrews Vancouver, Canada and others. Perhaps, Bhaswati is the first local student to serve as a summer volunteer. We hope that her example will inspire others to follow this noble and vital service.
