Hi,

Just wanted to say Thank You! for taking the time to code this app. I have been
using Editpad Pro for a number of years and decided recently not to update it.
I ran across your proggie in a search result for XML tools and I have to say
I'm very impressed and suprised at the power, quality and sophistication of
your product. Goodbye Editpad Pro...

Thank you again.

Warleggon

First, Notepad++ is an outstanding code editor. The main area where I'd love
to see some improvement is macros.

In my limited usage of N++ macros so far, nothing has worked as expected. A
simple macro to paste clipboard contents into a new window (keyboard=Ctrl+N,
Ctrl+V) ignored the Ctrl+N for some reason and pastest into the active document.
I also wanted to create a keyboard macro to close a tab using the standard MDI
Ctrl+F4 shortcut (why isn't this already in N++?) didn't do anything at all.

Why not integrate with AutoHotKey? It's open source, robust, and includes a
recorder which displays the macro code when stopped, allowing the user to edit
as necessary. You'd probably still have to extend it in places (e.g.
Find/Replace),
but it'd be a great addition to N++.

Marking to matching parenthesis is provided by the TextFX plugin. I erased the
Notepad++ folder and installed fresh and it's working fine here.

FWIW, N++ uses the standard Ctrl+W key to close the current tab. I use this
exclusively in FireFox, N++ and where available. It's also easier to type
than Ctrl+F4, so I would always try this first. If I have to use the mouse,
I don't use the app, period.

I'm still puzzled why programmers/coders (which should think of themselves
as power users) still insist on reaching for the mouse and clicking the [X] to
close the tabs in N++...

I'd like to thank Don for thinking about keyboard freaks and having a
solid keyboard support in N++. This is quite unusual for the young
generations destroyed by the mouse mentality. Thanks!

I use macros quite often in N++, but it's still not perfect.

I also use AutoHotkey extensively to override some keys in N++ and
define some new ones that I use on OpenVMS editors and that don't exist
anywhere else.

The number one annoyance for editor developers must be users who switch from
another editor. The number one source for feature requests, on the other hand,
must be users who switch from another editor! With that in mind, I'd like to
request persistence across Notepad++ invocations of the Find+Replace history
information. This is a feature in EditPlus, and one I use quite frequently.
It allows me to reuse searches and replaces from earlier sessions without having
to recreate them. If you wanted to one-up EditPlus, you'd add support for
creating
a frequently used search/replace list and one could then add useful
searches/replaces
into one's personal pantheon. Even cooler would be if you could name them in
that frequently used list!

I accidentally posted this in Plugin Development, but it was supposed to go
here...sorry!

I don't know if this has been asked before, and I probably wouldn't use it at
the moment anyway, but I was wondering if anyone wanted something in NPP to
compile their apps. Say I've just written a program in npp, I then have to copy
all the code etc. into another program to turn it into an .exe. Wouldn't it
be easier if you could just compile from npp?

Of course this would take a long time to add to every language that would need
it (I think), but it would probably be useful. Does anyone else think this is
a good idea?

Thanks for the great app so far (wrote my website with it!).

Hello
Have a request that would make this killerapp complete. If you in Windows
Explorer
open a flder containing a lot of files you can type on the keybord to find the
file.

Say that you want to find a file called _cart.asp. In Windows Explorer you can
then type "_" + "c" and the file matching this will be highlighted/selected.

If I do the same in Notepad++ the first file that beginns with a "c" gets
selected.

is this something that can be fixed? Would make the browsing for files in
Notepad++
much faster. If this explanation was too fuzyy just let me know and I'll give
it anither try :)

I also would like to see such a feature, currently I'm using dreamweaver to
edit my files because of it's syntax colouring, auto completion and ftp feature.
I just found notepad++ and think it's a great product but it just misses the
ftp feature.

Dreamweaver has a local and a remote area on which you work on, when you
download
a file from ftp it checks if you have a newer file local etcetera. So you're
always working local, and after you've done the changes you want you can save
it local and with a key-shortcut (ctrl-alt-u) you can upload the file you're
working in to the ftp server.

Hope someone can build in such a feature, because if that is done I don't need
dreamweaver anymore, because at this moment it is nothing more than a notepad
to me :-)
