In syntax highlighted files you can simply lex the string sections and comment
sections. With those strings, split them by whitespace and punctuation and do
a simple grep against a dictionary.

Josip,
you should check your options in notepad++ first and see that you can disable
that option.
I'm using it for a few months now and i must say i can't miss it anymore. It
doesn't only replace notepad...it has a lot of quality usefull things in it.
Regards,
Tim

The menus need to be scrollable or something like that. I have a LCD monitor
attached to my laptop, and on the monitor the resolution is only 1024x768, and
when I use the language menu, the choices flow off the screen.
Thanks,
Mike

I use v4.02 of THE BEST OPENSOURCE TEXT EDITOR IN THE WORLD. My alt-tab (or
selection from the active taskbar) puts me in edit fine -- BUT: it takes as
long as 3 seconds to get there! No other app in my armada seems to have this
problem: You alt-tab (or task-select) most apps and you're there in
milliseconds.
Why does it take so long?
o yeh, Win2K SP4. Any ideas?

I set Notepadd++ as a default editor for txt files
Situation:
If I am editing a text file from one directory and then move to another
directory
and click on a second text file. Notepad ++ will not load the second file.
I get an error message saying it cannot find the file and do I want to create
it.
If I answer yes, The Notepad++ gives the following error message
"Notepad++ : a free (GNU) source code editor has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
However, if the second file is drag/dropped into the Notepad++ there is no
problem
and I can edit and save both text files.

I, too, came here looking for an answer to that question. Most other text
editors
(basic to advanced) do this. I look forward to this 'feature' in a future
version.

I'm with you - column mode is the only reason I bring up UltraEdit over
Notepad++

I wish NPP would support SHIFT_JIS and EUC-JP too.

I too would love to see FTP saving and uploading in Notepad++
sure, there are programs out there that do FTP, but for quick edits it would
be wonderful.
as for the "best practices" and "possibility of screwing up" that is all the
users decision and fault if they screw up.
I currently use Notepad++ to save multiple FTP files, and it would be wonderful
to be able to download, edit, then upload the files all using Notepad++.
I manage...
2 counter-strike servers... everytime i need to change something i have to open
Filezilla, download the file, edit the file, save the file, exit out of n++,
upload the file... this may be Config files, or the admins file, or whatever,
but it would still be a nice feature.
I also manage my website... http://bio.pk-designs.com
which is all Freeware/Firefox extensions... the main reason i stopped updating
my site was due to lack of a good freeware text editor that would allow me to
connect to my server, download the file to a temp directory, edit the file,
save the file and upload it...
I also have a couple Php files i use for my signature i use on forums, this
feature would allow me to make quick changes to it, and upload easily
efficiently.

I really like Notepad++. What keeps me from using it more is that it doesn't
follow common indentation when you hit Enter to go to another line after typing
certain characters. Use JEdit or Eclipse and you'll see what I mean. If you
hit Enter after typing a { Notepad++ should indent. Also, if you type a closing
} it should dedent. Python has no braces but it is possible to get this right
for Python too - at least the indentation part. There are other
language-specific
times when indent and dedent should occur but I hope you get the idea.
This feature would keep me in Notepad++ a lot more. As it is, hitting TAB or
Backspace all the time to get good indentation quickly becomes tiresome and
I end up going elsewhere to edit my code.
I've been using Notepad++ since 2.x and really like the progress that's
happening.
Keep up the good work.
Regards,
Chris

A very annoying bug/feature of 4.0.2 is that the edit window does not have focus
when you activate the program (e.g. using Alt-Tab).
To reproduce:
1. Open Notepad++ 4.0.2
2. type some text
3. switch to another program
4. alt-tab back to notepad++ (or use the task bar to activate it)
5. continue typing
6. nothing happens, because the edit field does not have focus; you first have
to click inside the edit area with the mouse
Hope this can be fixed asap!
A. Blom
