Hi Joel - I did define a user-defined language (UDL) and indeed it duly appears
below the separator under the language menu. What I want to do is to use this
language as the default when I open a file. Unfortunately the file that I wish
to open does not have any extension with which to associate my UDL. So I want
to use my UDL as the default selection when I open notepad++.

I have some bug in regular expression.
I need to replace some text with regular expression. I need that expression
to use "\n" symbol.
Exaple:
Find: some text
Replace: some text\nsome text\n$(IntDir)\\build_nr."
The problem is in "\\build_nr". I need to get "\build_nr" after the replacement.
But i've got a "\<b>uild_nr", where <b> is special symbol that equals to \b.
What i am doing wrong?
P.S. Sorry for my english.

It has UTF-8 for option, but does not display the Korean character.

I am trying to create a custom lua definition for use in developing AddOns for
World of Warcraft. I have gotten it work work except for 2 lingering issues
that I cannot seem to resolve.
1) the first issue I enoucnter is the fact that comments use characters that
also need to be operators. Notepad doesn't seem to allow this behavior. Somehow
the integrated lua syntax does in fact work, but when creating my own
derivitive,
it doesn't.

I could of course exclude - [ ] from the operators, but then other issues arise
with text strings. Specifically when I do any type of reference to table entries
that use the format ['reference'] or ["reference"]. Neither of these get
properly
colored as they should since [ and ] are not operators.
2) the other issue I have is merely a personal preference more than anything
else. I would like to have more than 4 sets of keywords, and it looks like
Notepad++
only allows the 4?
words1 = Native Keywords (and not nil etc...)
words2 = Reserved Keywords (_VERSION getfenv etc...)
words3 = Global API Functions (for World of Warcraft)
words4 = Widget API Functions (for World of Warcraft)
I want to have 2 more sets of keywods that would allow me to add categories
for Default Frames, and Secure Functions to ahve their own syntax highlight
rules.
Any help is appareciated, or if this isn't even possible at least tell me. For
now I ahve customized the lang.xml to add the functions I need, but again I
can't figure out how to add the extra 2 sets of keywords that I want. At least
with lang.xml I don't have the comment issue though.

Again: Try specifying "User defined" in the dropdown menu for Default Language
on the New Document tab of the Preferences dialog. Yes, I know you have UDL
defined. As I mentioned, I have Bang defined, but by selecting "User defined",
I got the Bang definition. <shrug>
This may not work for you, but it does for my limited user-defined language.
No, it's not intuitive, and the next release might break this, even if it does
work for you. --Joel

Just FYI, though it isn't what you guys are specifically asking for, you can
add new language support by editing the langs.xml file and the styles.xml file.
I was able to add proper support for Verilog that way in version 3.9, prior
to letting Don know about the problems so he could fix them in version 4.0.
I'm sure that if you generate the proper lines to add to those files to make
your language of choice work, and submit them here, that Don will add them in
future versions.
Then again, I could be wrong, and he might hate the concept of new languages
and refuse to add them ;).

As long as it is not of the "Man: 'It hurts when I do this.' Doctor: 'Then don't
do that.'" ilk, I'd be interested as well. The last I saw of this was that
one had to use VC++ 7 for NP++ and mingw for Scintilla. The plugins were
workable
with strict header file definitions, I recall.
I have been fairly successful re-working some odd source to make it compilable
with Borland's compiler, as long as I had all the relevant source. I wanted
to see if that were possible with Notepad++. There may be a way to make it
completely compilable with mingw without the crashing I saw reported, but I've
not yet figured out what is needed to get mingw working with known good stuff!
