Clicking to the left of a line turns on what looks like a breakpoint - which
implies debugging. Does N++ do debugging? If so, where can I read about it?

If not, what's that thing that looks like a breakpoint?

I have tabulations of numerical data, many rows, 5 columns.
I would like to delete just one entire column, disturbing no
other. Conventional highlighting will select entire rows to
delete ("Cut"). I want to delete columns.....any clues?

You can use column mode - Alt-C to select the columns you want. Press space
key to blank those columns.

"Try ctrl + r to open the advanced search and replace editor. They say to use
ctrl + m for multiple lines. "

That's how I would do it, but note that this doesn't work in regex mode. See
http://notepad-plus.wiki.sourceforge.net/FindReplaceNewlineHowTo for other
options.

Is there any way to change the default length of a tab?

For example, in UltraEdit, all my PHP comments line up. I open any of my PHP
files in Notepad++ they are all misaligned. For this reason alone, I cannot
use Notepad++ as my default text-editor (as I would have to manually change
200+ php files).

I see the header of this message also has a background color.
Does this site support debugging?

There is a native debugger plugin for Notepad++ available. It supports currently
PHP. Ask the developer to extend the plugin for perl or ask how to do it.

Otherwise the "breakpoints" are bookmarks. Here you can remember positions or
mark line with the Find dialog.

Best Regards
Jens

I noticed that PHP syntax highlight ins't working in latest release,
reinstalling
4.1.2 works great...

I have the same problem, I use the Notepad++ v4.2.2. But I can't change the
font style for C++ String Style.

.class files are not plain text, you should open the .java file, but normally
they are not included in the jar.

Yes, in settings, then the first menu item, then the tab "other".

I always use spaces, not tabs.
