I don't know about 4.3, but in earlier versions if you didn't have
"doLocalConf.xml"
(a zero-length file) in your NPP install dir, it would get its settings and
configuration from %APPDATA%\Notepad++\, or some other subdirectory under
C:\Documents and Settings\.
This happens unless you check "Don't use %APPDATA%" (or something like that)
when you install Notepad++. Unlike the other settings, it doesn't remember
this one...

The text should be selected, so if you just start typing the word or phrase
you want to look for, the selected text will be replaced. This also applies
to pasting the clipboard contents with ctrl-V.
In other words, there's no need to turn it off, and it is nice to have when
you do want to use the current word as the word to find.
The "wrap around" option allows you to search the whole document, starting at
the current cursor position and "wrapping around" to the top of the file after
the search reaches the bottom. It will stop when it gets back to the current
cursor position if it doesn't find any matches.
Repeated presses of F3 (repeat find) will not stop at the end of the file if
this setting is checked.

I think the configuration stuff is stored by default in %appdata%\Notepad++\.

Well, there's a pretty-print reformatting possible with TextFX > TextFX HTML
Tidy, although you'll need to search for info on setting it up to give you what
you want. Search this forum and the link given in the menuitem "Visit HTML
Tidy SourceForge website".
Also consider the XML Tools plugin by Nicolas Crittin:

Well I disagree. Large files aren?t just log files. I constantly view edit
data sets of up to 2 GB... I bought a Editpad Pro which is almost (in
functionality)
perfect copy of N++ but it handles the large files with ease. I'm looking in
to a free editor for some of my colleagues, and I must say N++ is at this stage
number one on my list, except for this problem and one or two features in the
text manipulation plug-in that is missing

It would be nice. Is there just a particular operation you want to do? Maybe
there's another way.

In MS'Notepad the non-printable characters dispaly as space, how can I get
the same view in Notepad++?
Now I can use the menu "TextFX->TextFX Characters->Zap all non printable
characters
to #" to Convert non-printable characters, but
I must replace the '#' with space again to get the view. Is there some Simple
way to do the same thing?
Someone know it ?
Thanks!

i just tested v4.3 and it's a cool improvement (over v4.1 i had before).
i still miss a column edit mode though. i would love to select some lines
(without
any characters selected, just below each other) and then write my text into
all lines at once. this is possible by menu only: "column editor" (which is
a start).
