I have problems using Notepad to write HTML because the line breaks break up
the HTML code and make it difficult to replace them with other codes.

I use Notepad but I need a text editor that eliminates all line breaks that
are not written into the HTML code.

Why should a non-programmer, or three year old, use Notepad++ instead of
Notepad?

Thank you.

What do you mean by automatically?

You can do it manually.
Menu: TextFX
Submenu: TextFX Edit
Option: Delete Blank Lines

But you have to make a selection first (probably CTRL+A).

Because it is so much more fun!

Notepad++ is for anyone who wants to use it.

You can edit your HTML files and remove all line breaks when you're done, for
example.

Use the following regular expressions in the Find field:
\[[^\]]+\]

It will match (and so select) both square brackets too.

\[ _____: match [
[^\]] __: any character other than ] will match
+ ______: match at least one and any consecutive
\] _____: match ]

Anything you can do in Notepad, can be done in Notepad++, as far as I know.

So if you are used to editing files with Notepad, you should have no problem
using N++ for that. N++ offers a lot of features to additionally edit your text
or HTML files, allowing easy removal of line breaks. You can get an impression
by searching the forum for that.

I guess the character set of the Find form doesn't match that of the main
screen.

You say 'Simple Script Plug-In'...
I say 'I have no clue where to start'

I've downloaded the sample plugin from the mainpage, opened it in Visual Studio,
but then I'm lost :-(

Is it really simple to do this?

If you download the Simple Script Plug-In .dll package for Notepad++ from the
link below and extract the .dll file to the Notepad++ Plugins folder (under
Program Files\Notepad++), you should at least notice this plugin in the menu
in Notepad++.
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=189927&package_id=254135

With this Plug-In you can write a simple script that does all these 4 find and
replace actions you have to do manually each time now.

You can reduce the number of find and replace actions to 2 by using regular
expressions:

1. Replace double quotes. Enter the following in the Find and Replace Fields.
Find field:
[??]
Replace field:
"

2. Replace single quotes.
Find field:
[??]
Replace field:
'
