I just reinstalled v4.8.1, deleted Explorer.dll and the problem exist. So i
reinstalled v4.7.5 (with Explorer.dll) and everything works as fast as usual.
So it's not the explorer.dll that causes this trouble.

I'd rather be explicitly warned about this, because the number of found
occurrences
may matter. A note on the statusbar will vanish when something else is displayed
there.

before 4.8, i would manually add commands to the shortcuts.xml file in %APPDATA%
using n++ itself. however, with this new version, it seems that after i add
my own custom commands and save, n++ discards them the next time i start up
(this was never an issue pre-4.8).
the only way i can get n++ to remember my changes is if i edit the xml files
in *gasp* regular notepad. is this a new bug or was it a bug that was fixed?

That should never have worked in the first place afaik, Notepad++ resaves the
file on exit, adding in any changes that were made during runtime.
You should be able to specify almost anything from within the application,
though
copy/pasting shortcuts isnt possible, if you want that then you indeed have
to use another tool (or edit in Notepad++, save as a copy, exit and put the
copy over the original).

Exactly, though the reason is buried quite deep beyond that :).
Usually Windows convert the Unicode into ANSI, which is one byte. But somewhere,
Windows stopped doing so, but Notepad++ (or Scintilla actually) still used that
one byte, thus resulting in your %256 results.
It should be fixed within the next few days (I hope).

Notepad++ installed on a SanDisk U3 flash drive and it works perfectly.
Tried to install Spell Checker:
SANDISK/System/Apps/Notepad++/plugins/
In what directory should the Spell Checker be placed?
In what directory should the dictionary be placed?
As currently configured, Aspell-en-0.50-2-3.exe is in the plugins folder, along
with folders data, dict and doc.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

i had a feeling that would be the case. i have a long list of my own custom
shortcuts that i use (mostly compiler related) and it was kind of a pain to
manually create each one within the application from scratch every time i
installed
a new version. i had been saving the various <Command... elements in a text
file and just cutting-and-pasting them into the shortcuts.xml whenever i
upgraded
to a new version. oh well, using a different tool for this purpose, i can live
with that since i love n++ so much.

Did you try to remove all the plugins to make sure that the problem does come
from npp v4.8.1?

We can feed the whole world, so when there is some kind of a disaster anywhere,
we can solve the immediate problem in a minute. However, for the long term
solution
of a problem, it is better to learn those to provide in their own food. Or
perhaps
write a book from which they can learn, instead of telling the same story to
all those people personally. You get the idea of different and possibly
(in)effective
ways of helping?

Is there a way to replace the found string without having to open up every
document?
If not, how do I select more than one document in the 'found results' box to
open instead of having to click each one open?
