Hi Thomas,
If you are using the latest version(This facility is in older version too, but
I don't remember from which),
Goto "settings" menu (6th Item).
Select "Preference..." (1st Item).
Now you will see.. the Dialog.
Select "MICS" tab.
In top left corner you will find the setting; probably what you need.
Take a look at all options. that will make your life easy.

I had 3 unsaved tabs open in notepad++ when my PC froze-up (damn xp sp3
update!!).
When I opened it back up after the crash - only the saved tab was
present....where
might that lost session file be? Can I run undelete utility in any folder to
look for it? what might it be called or extension might it have? anything I
can do to recover these lost text files?

I have a similar problem but it's not just files that I didn't create in NP++.
I can make changes to a file on an embedded Linux box (XML configuration files),
and after uploading them to my XP box, I can't open the file. I can copy the
file to a .txt file and open it. I do fc /b to compare the two files and the
txt file is identical. I can open an identical XML file with no problem. If
I rename an offending XML to TXT, the crash occurs, too.
Very bizarre - any clues? Any bug fixes around the corner?

Steps to repoduce:
File->New
One first line type:
test1 test2 test3
Position cursor at start of line
Start Macro Recorder Ctrl+Shift+R
Press Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow to select the text "test1"
Press Ctrl+C to copy the text to clipboard
Press Ctrl+Right Arrow to move to start of next word, cursor will now be at
the beginning of "test2"
Press Ctrl+V to paste text from clipboard. The first line should now read:
test1 test1test2 test3
Press Ctrl+Shift+R to stop recording
Press Ctrl+Shift+P to playback
Expected result:
test1 test1test2 test2test3
Actual result:
test1 test1test2 t[NUL][NUL][NUL][SI]est3
Where the NUL and SI in brackets above are the white on black text that
notepad++
uses to show non-printing characters
Has only started happening since I upgraded to 4.9. Upgraded to 4.9.2, still
broken.

1970 is that awesome date where the time sometimes is zero, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_t
Since Notepad++ makes use of time_t to check if a file has been changed outside,
this could very well be the source of the crash.
I'll take a peek at it, I'm working on the file loading system anyway so I may
as well take that into account.
There's probably a better alternative to time_t to fix the problem.

Hi,
1) First of all many thanks for creating this Excellent editor !
I love it. Keep up the great work !
2) I am running the latest version of NPP and have set my recent files limit
to maximum (30). I have observed that many times the recent files do not open
when clicked.
Is anyone else facing similar problem ? or is this problem already reported.

Instead of renaming a file, try the type command to create a new copy and see
if that one can be opened.
type filename.xml >filename.txt

I figured out at least my part of the problem... It took most of the afternoon,
but it was really starting to bother me.
I noticed, finally, that in a Windows Explorer window, the files that were
bothersome
didn't have dates listed. Some or most of the files like that are coming from
an embedded Linux system that doesn't have a real-time clock, and doesn't bother
to use NTP to find out what time it really was. Turns out that Notepad++ has
a huge problem with files that were "created" before January 1, 1970, which
is, after all, when time began ;)
I'm 99.8% convinced that that's the problem... Don't know what part of the code
is doing that, so I might have to check it out.
I used a utility named FileDate.exe (
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/filedatech.html
) to bring the file date into the present, and I was able to open the file.
Back to May 29, 1970, and I was able to open the file. May 29, 1969, and Notepad
++ crashes.

Hello,
When I open NP++ I get a strange dropdown menu right in the middle of the open
document. Please see screenshot here:

If I attempt to use the drop down it disappears, or if I refresh the screen
or tab over to another document it disappears as well. Seems to just be when
opening NP++. Any ideas what this might be?
