Notepad++ will always handle dropped files by opening them. Plugin windows may
choose to do otherwise, but that wont help much. If you already have the path
to the file typed out, there are plugins to enclose the text in an IMG tag,
but afaik none have the ability to accept explorer files.

There seems to be a bug in FTP_S that causes files to be incomplete when
downloaded.
I never experienced this myself, but it could very well be a threading issue
or something else.

Could you try switching between Active and Passive connections? FTP_S is begging
for a rewrite (atleast the backend :)), but I jsut cant seem to get started
on it.

You'd have to configure that in windows (Control Panel, Language Settings,
Keyboard
layout). If you already have multiple keyboards installed, pressing left alt-
left shift might do the trick

Hello all, I am a former Notepad2 user and have recently moved to Notepad++
which I use daily for PHP programming at home and at work.

I'd like to say that I think this app is the best freeware editor out there.
It is truly a joy to work with.

I have noticed several bugs / features that I would love to bring forward in
the hope that they will be looked at if the developer has some time...

I have provided demo videos below which are RARed mpeg files and should play
on all Windows versions.

1) Bugs with tabbed windows. Since v5.0 (4.92 is fine), there seem to be some
issues with tabs. This happens with single line tabs. To replicate, try the
following...

a) Open many many documents so that the tab bar is filled up and starts to
scroll
to the right
b) Move to the last document in the tabbed window list
c) Close off tab by tab using Ctrl+W. After visible documents have been closed,
the tab bar doesn't scroll to the left, instead it stays visible with no
content.
As you move across using Ctrl+Tab, you see only the name of the active tab.

Demo Video: http://users.on.net/~djbros/notepadpp/tabs.rar

2) Style Configurator strange behavior.

a) Under Style, select something to change and change the color.
b) Click on another item under Style and try to change the color. On my PC,
it doesn't select the other item, there is no way to change selection in under
Style after I have changed one color.

The only way around this seems to be to change Language, then come back to the
Language I was working on to edit the color.

Demo Video: http://users.on.net/~djbros/notepadpp/styleconf.rar

3) File association icons

On my work computer (works ok at home), when I associate anything to Notepad++,
the icon turns into the generic windows icon instead of the Notepad++ icon.
If I change the association to Notepad2, it is ok. Any idea why this might
be happening?

4) Auto-indent behaves strangely (differently to Notepad2) and I find it a lot
harder to work with. This is by far my biggest problem with Notepad++ at the
current time as I am constantly correcting the extra tabs added by Notepad++.

For an example, try this code...

if($x)
{
        if($x)
        {
        }
}

Say I want to move the last line down, I go to the start of the last line and
hit enter. This is the result...

if($x)
{
        if($x)
        {
        }

        }

I have tested this with PSPad and Notepad2 and neither have this behavior.

Demo Video: http://users.on.net/~djbros/notepadpp/indent.rar

5) It would be nice for Notepad++ to auto-indent after opening braces.

e.g.

if($x == 4)
{
   _cursor should automatically be indented when I hit enter after entering
my {

} <- cursor should automatically remove the indent of the current line when
I type }

Demo Video: http://users.on.net/~djbros/notepadpp/indent-braces.rar

6) General GUI suggestions

I think that Notepad++ would feel a lot more natural in a Windows environment
with several small changes to the GUI.

a) Remove border around the tab bar and make the tabs use a Windows XP / Vista
themed look
b) Redesign shortcut mapper dialog to be smaller and more like the Style
Configurator
dialog

Demo Picture: http://users.on.net/~djbros/notepadpp/gui.png

Thanks so much for your time :)
Fots

The toolbar struct did have support for .ico, but it was never implemented (I
think thats the exact reason all plugin icons disappear when selecting other
icon sets). When rewriting the toolbar I considered adding it in, but I'm afraid
this'll break one thing and another, since not all plugins make use of it I
think (possible with garbage data in the icon handles). Don made it so he should
know best. I'm not sure if the toolbar supports .ico natively but a few function
calls convert HICON to HBITMAP:
http://www.codeguru.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-250652.html
The important function here is GetIconInfo (to enforce transparency, I think
you have to get the color bitmap, put it in a DC, blit the transparency bitmap
over it in some special way (I dont know how exactly, it has always puzzled
me) making transparent section the grey transparent color and give the resulting
bitmap to N++)

Another suggestion concerning the appearance of the taskbar icon:

The taskbar shows the beginning of the filename of the currently activated tab,
which is always the same if you have a quite deep directory structure. Thus
this information is nearly useless. Why not give the user the possibility to
choose what to display here? Useful examples are just "Notepad++" (this way
it's clear which program belongs to this icon) or the pure filename without
the directoryx structure.

Apart from those minor things, I like Notepad++ more and more and will
completely
abandon my old editor soon. Great work!

> possible with garbage data in the icon handles

This is easily handled by ignoring the icon handle when bitmap handle != 0 (i.e.
the bitmap will have precedence if both handles are specified).

Did quite get the question at first.
If you want it to launch the current file in your browser, use the Run menu,
the website has details on how to use it with the filename

Cause: Using Close Document Shortcut (CTRL+W) on multiple files very fast.

Symptoms: Cannot open the file closed using this method until the application
has restarted.

Solution: Restart Notepad++.

Version: 5.0

---

NOTE: I cannot reproduce this bug.

Here is what i did:

1. I already had about 5-6 files open in the appication.
2. I select around 8 files in windows explorer
3. Using the Context menu i open them all at once using Notepad ++
4. I play around, add data, copy/paste throughout these newly opened files.
5. I use CTRL+W to quickly close most of the newly opened files.
6. I try to open a single file i had closed, without success.

----------

Just a note, if i or anyone else can find the exact reason for this bug let
me know :P.
---

BTW: this app rocks for PHP so much. makes life so much easier, 1 single
suggestion
would be to expand the functionality of code block grouping. (maybe add labels,
make it a tiny bit neater for seamlessness).

Happy Coding People.

Personally i just keep a folder open on the current project im working on.

Just need to drag n Drop the file i want to edit.

(I'm guessing the want the same functionality as internet explorers "View
Source",
where it opens the actual file the browser is using in notepad. I don't see
any way to put in a "url" into notepadd++ and it give you the file as notepad++
- i doubt - knows that the server is actually part of a file system)

Though i think i get what harry is saying when he says use Run. Windows Run
dialog box opens files that are in the windows environment PATH.
Maybe if you add your website to the PATH environment variable you could call
your scripts like Start->Run->Site/P1.php

Ofcourse you would need to set Notepad ++ as the default program for opening
.php files.

Easy enough,

Hope this helps.
