The registry is the only way to make file associations in Windows systems.
If you are using N++ portable and want file associations, then you still can.
Just understand that doing this will result in failures when your portable
device
is not present.
What I did was to write a simple VBS script that checks if N++ portable is
available.
If it is present N++ launches, otherwise it does nothing. Then you will at least
avoid any error messages.

I noticed this problem in npp 5.0.3 but it also shows in the v5.1RC
If I select a piece of text from right to left (not left to right) and then
press CTRL+X to cut the text, then the cursor is moved from the current position
N characters to the left where N is the length of the text.
This does not happen if I use the menu Edit->Cut to cut instead of the shortcut
CTRL+X.
This does not happen if I select the text from left to right.
For example, start an empty tab and type "123 456 789"
Move the cursor to the position just after the 6, press shift and click left
3 times to reach just before the 4.
Now 456 is highlighted.
Press CTRL+X.
There cursor should be between the 2 spaces left between 3 and 7 but instead
it's between 2 and 3.

Do you have any autoclose feature enabled or something like that?
I just tried what you said and works OK (v5.0.3)

Does the problem disappear if you unzip v5.1 RC into a clean folder?
If yes, then it's due to one of your plugins.

Both of your opinions reflect mine but the double mapping my intent resides
with what heravar said.
While I honestly don't care about the shortcuts very much, the thing I want
the most is the ability to hide the tab bar if one document is open. The ctrl+t
would just be a nice addition.

>From what I understand, the .xml and .api files are merely a set of items to
be used for autocompletion, but don't define a language.
You should do some more research (in these forums, and on the Notepad++ website)
about what all is needed for defining a new language in Notepad++.
In short, in order to create a new language definition in Notepad++, you need
to first define the syntax. To define the syntax you can either use the User
Define Language dialog, or you can delve into the scintilla lexer code.

I suppose sytax highlighting would be a help if that's what you need to see.
For my use, it would be a great advantage if the search string were highlighted
in the results window. This would make it much easier to find certain strings
in the stream of text that appears in this window, since it's not just the
search
string that appears, it's all of every line.
Not that I'm complaining about that, mind you. But often I am looking for a
short string in a long line of text, and it isn't always easy to spot. I know
that I can double click on a results line and it will take me to that spot in
the corresponding file. But sometimes I'm checking several hundred occurances
in sixty or seventy files, which would make for a lot of clicking and moving.
Having the search string highlighted would be a real help.

So far, I guess your only option is using the Compare Plugin and copy-pastying
accordingly

Is there a feature in N++ to merge two files together? Thanks...
