After installing 5.1.1 or 5.1.2 on WinXP, I get this error whenever trying to
open a file on the desktop. If I reinstall 5.0.3 I do not have this problem.
All installations performed using the downloaded installer.
Has anyone else seen this?
Steps to duplicate:
1) install 5.0.3 (it was already installed)
2) install 5.1.1 or 5.1.2
3) create new text file "test.txt" on the WinXP Desktop
4) double-click the file
5) Note the error "C:\Documents doesn't exist. Create it?"
6) Select "No"
7) Note the error "C:\Documents and Settings\my_username\Desktop\and doesn't
exist. Create it?"
8) Select "No"
9) The file does not open
10) Back on the desktop, right-click the same test.txt file, select "Edit with
Notepad++" from the right-click menu. The file opens without error.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not change the symptoms.

Same here. The bug seems to be caused by too long file names (54 doesn't crash,
55 crashes it).
I am using v5.1.2 Unicode.

I can confirm sirius's comment that the bug is with ComparePlugin.dll, and
deleting
it solves the problem. The problem is probably with the file path when saving
the document (too long file path/name).

i was thinking...
we have this great opensource editor with this awful looking and coded website
which is still using frames for god sake!
so i was thinking... if someone will design a new look for the website, i will
code the client side (xhtml, css and some js), and im sure some one will do
the server side (php and mysql)...
so what do you think?
p.s - of course we will do this only if DON o.k with this and will cooperate
with us.
