The current version of notepad++ (5.2) will highlight variables embedded in
double-quote strings, but it won't highlight them if the variable is delimited
with curly braces {}.
Can that be made into a feature of the next update please? That would
be great!

Can't reproduce, all is OK with Russian text after several replacements and
saving/reopening.
Maybe you are using some old/problematic plugins.
Try to download latest Notepad++ in zip archive, unzip this archive to new empty
folder and run Notepad++ from that folder.
Oh, Don, I guess such approach should be listed somewhere in Notepad++'es
Help/FAQ
about avoiding problems...

(4) Hex-Editor hangs when searching for bytes/strings which are not present
in current fle.
(5) Hex-Editor causes redrawing problems when using "Go to another View" with
just one opened file.

I have opened the damaged file and have changed a word "????????????"
on "???????????????"
save and re-open

I REPEAT: This problem arises at simple editing and at replacement of the text
too.
!!! Sometimes on search too there are strange things:
I 1-find a word
It to me finds it and emphasizes also this word turns to not clear symbols,
after removal of a label of allocation, it becomes usual.

Before installation I delete the old version.
But in newer the version this problem generates all more difficultly.
