How does the new hidden feature dlgAlwaysVisible work? I have set
dlgAlwaysVisible
to 'yes' and 'no', but when I press CTRL+F, enter a text and press Enter, the
search dialog is always visible.

I have had the same problem as you. Unfortunately there seems to be no solution
right now other than to define YOUR OWN custom language in the custom language
definition feature of Notepad++. Try that, I think it's worth the effort.
I personally don't mind the same color for all keywords/functions. BTW NPP seems
very resistant to changing the pre-defined syntax highlighting, hopefully that
will change with future versions.

Yeah, I'm also looking for that feature. That would be very helpful.
The problem with siranm's suggestion is: If you click between the dollar sign
$ and the variable name, then sometimes notepad++ selects more than just this
variable, but also brackets and text before the variable.
For example, if you have this:
function foo($text, $id) { }
then it works fine with $id but not with $text.

Doesn't the plugin use ClearType? The Consolas font looks a bit strange:
