Just a quick question. Is there a way to toggle wrap between words and
characters?

It works for me if I search for
\r\n
and replace with
"}\r\n{"
Then all you have to do is manually edit the first and last lines. Notepad++
has a habit of highlighting the first word next to the cursor when I select
replace from the menu so you have to click the "Find Next" button then you can
click the "Replace All". I have the search mode set to "Extended.."

If the point is only to locate specific positions on a line, use the TextFX
-> TextFX Tools -> Insert Ruler command .

I have 5.4.5 and have set tabs-to-spaces but the editor often "forgets" this
setting. As a python programmer that's crazy frustrating since tabs vs. spaces
matter a lot.

Thank you.
For the unhiding lines, ah I see, I had it set not to display the bookmark
margin
due to not using it.

Hi,
The entries created either in the Help menu or in the Language Help menu are
designed to open the help fil on the main page to replicate the behavior of
other editors.
However, it that could solve your problem, I could add an option to
enable/disable
the search for current word instead of the main page.
CTRL+F1 is (i.e. the Help menu) is the way to search for words.
Obviously I cannot foresee what help you want to open without an extension that
helps me.
So may be adding the initial new feature would allow you to select it by
yourself.

When Notepad++ sees a backslash followed by a single quote using Matlab
highlighting,
everything after it is colored gray (text).
Example:
dirRoot = pwd;
dir = [dirRoot,'/xyz'];
dir = regexprep(dir, '\', '/');
addpath(dirRoot);
addpath(dir);
Notice that all characters following the \' is gray -- it seems to treat the
two characters as some sort of escape sequence and thus never closes the string.
Anyone have a fix/workaround for this?

I tried to follow the instructions to replace notepad, but the directories in
the first three steps don't exist. Is there an alternative location in Windows
7, or is it just necessary to replace the file in C:\Windows\system32?

Here is an excerpt of
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/notepad-plus/index.php?title=Managing_Line
_Lengths which seems to address your point:
* The following macro sets the granularity of the line wrapping method:
<Macro name=macro_2 Ctrl="yes" Alt="yes" Shift="no" Key="100">
<Action type="0" message="2268" wParam=new_mode lParam="0" sParam=""/>
</Macro>
new_mode is either:
* 0 for no word wrap
* 1 for wrap at word boundaries only
* 2 for wrap at cutoff point
* Other values lead to undefined behaviour and should be avoided.
The <Macro ... </Macro> stuff is to be inserted in shortcuts.xml. Since it is
a configuration file, the simplest to do that is to use another editor to do
the pasting, otherwise please refer
to http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/notepad-plus/index.php?title=Configurat
ion_Files
The wrappping mode should be between double quotes, as the xml file will
abundantly
show you. Name and binding can be altered as for any macro.
CChris

Running notepad++ in Windows 7 RC as administrator. When i go to open a file
the open dialog does not display any of my mapped network drives. I can see
and access them in explorer and other applications. Has anyone noticed this
or come accross a solution?

I use notepad ++ to edit files on a standard linux server. I moved a file from
one location to another. This resulted in problems editing files, many attempts
to reconfigure, including about 4 re-installs, and finally I found that an
important
file was truncated when downloaded (then when auto-saved, of course destroyed
the original).\
Problems like this have happened before when I move a file.
There are important and serious destructive gremlins in Notepad++.
Beware.
- Henrik
