The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic teacher and outstanding researcher who will help maintain our high level of scholarship and research activities. (The Department gained the maximum ranking of 5* in the last two Research Assessment Exercises) The Department is very active in aerostructures research including damage mechanisms and finite element modelling of advanced composite structures, boundary element method and its application to structural integrity and durability, general non-linear finite element analysis, non-linear dynamics, multiscale modelling and adaptive/smart structures. Much of this research is motivated by the energy and environmental challenges facing aviation today. The successful applicant will ideally have a strong research reputation in one of the above fields but applicants able to demonstrate excellence in other complementary areas of aerostructures research are encouraged - the potential to make milestone contributions to aerostructures is of the greatest importance.
