When I said veto earlier,  what I meant was "vote -1".

bq.  we'll document that having a hadoop.profile doesn't imply that a release 
is officially supported against that profile.

Does "officially supported" ==   "we ran our test suite against a version and 
documented anything special"?  

bq.  whichever versions come in with the release votes make up the supported 
set for the release?

That sounds reasonable, assuming the reporter did not have to take an 
undocumented step to make the test run.
