We already have made the decision, and have code included in Apache Accumulo,
that vendor specific changes are acceptable if someone takes the time to make a
vendor specific change. Note: o.a.a.s.m.recovery.MapRLogCloser. I don't see a
reason why configuration files should be treated differently than source code.

If we altered this patch to prompt the user in bootstrap_config.sh to select
HDP or the Apache Hadoop related config (with a default to the ASF version)
then that would be an acceptable compromise for me. If other vendors then need
different specific configuration this would prevent an explosion of vendor
configs in the files of those not using the vendors.
