Plug-able source and sinks are a big advantage - but others include:
- eliminate an unnecessary hadoop dependency in the Accumulo code base.
- simplify metrics - the hadoop metrics can be cumbersome to configure and
to use in the code - mircometer seems much more straight forward. The goal
would be to reduce the complexity of adding metrics so that often requested
metrics enhancements would be easier to make going forward.
