Fixed in 3.17.0 by the #13170 refactor: forward headers are now built with a blacklist that strips `accept-encoding`, so the LLM upstream no longer replies with gzip the plugin can't parse. Please upgrade to 3.17.0. (Making the response path Content-Encoding-aware, for upstreams that compress unconditionally, would be a separate enhancement — worth its own issue if anyone actually hits such an upstream.)
