APISIX 3.19.0 supports the original request to expose existing HTTP APIs as
MCP tools through the [openapi-to-mcp
plugin](https://github.com/apache/apisix/blob/473043623c161966f3f6ef4e8f12d2d8667a12d2/docs/en/latest/plugins/openapi-to-mcp.md).
The MCP server runs inside APISIX and supports both HTTP+SSE and Streamable
HTTP, without changing the existing business API or deploying an additional MCP
process.

Configure `openapi_url` and `base_url` on a Route serving the MCP endpoint.
The plugin generates tool names, descriptions, and input schemas from the
OpenAPI operations, then calls the corresponding HTTP API for tools/call. You
can provide an OpenAPI document describing only the APIs you want to expose.
This is configured through OpenAPI rather than automatic discovery of existing
APISIX Routes.
