On the merge-up: #16180 now carries `afe8ef852b` (the `@since 8.0.1` change) and the four commits from this round as `-x` cherry-picks, so the six files touched here are byte-identical on both branches. Once this reaches 9.0.x, merging it into #16180 won't conflict on the `@since` lines. I fixed the superclass case instead of documenting it; details are in that thread.
