Heads-up for reviewers: #16573 (the `createAlias` fix for #16562) changes the same two files this chain refactors, `PredicateGenerator` and `JpaCriteriaQueryCreator`. It is further along in review, approved and with its requested changes fixed, and it merges cleanly into 8.0.x today. So this chain will rebase onto #16573 after it merges, and its alias changes will be carried over into the criterion handlers here.
