[~blackdrag] Are you saying {{setGuards()}} should have been applied to the
{{handle}} that was returned for the null and identity cases in the old logic?
I have a pull request coming to take it back to direct call of {{asBoolean()}}.
It seems to work fine; I'm just not sure why.
