There needs to be a REST sampler for JMeter 2.5 in the main package, as its is
widely used i believe.
There has been a REST sampler available for earlier versions as a plugin.
Following link gives the details

But the above plugin does not give any response in jmeter 2.5, hence i feel
there is s need for the compatible REST sampler to be included in the main
package.
