Please file a Bugzilla enhancement request with details.

It does now.

The fallback is CrossPlatform == Metal

If changing the default did not have such a bad effect on Windows XP, it might
be worth changing the default.

However, it's trivial for you to change the default.

I've not yet had a chance to test it on Windows 7, but if that behaves OK, it
would be possible to change the Windows default but keep the current behaviour
on XP.
