After looking at this Karaf stuff for a few days, I am going to close this out without merging, and create separate PRs for 1.8.x and master. master should be updated to Karaf 3.0.x before the jclouds 2.0 release and 1.8.x just needs these basic dependency updates to 2.3.6. There is also another issue with supporting Java 8 and I will address that separately as well once Karaf supports it.
