[~rgoers] yes, you're right; your suggestion is good in an ideal world or when
you're starting from scratch.
Unfortunately here the application has almost 20 years, and there's still code
in it providing its "own logging" framework to "avoid dependencies" with actual
logging frameworks (i.e. log4j, logback, etc.) for users that like to use it at
the early years (when logging frameworks were not that much mature and
widespread).
