I think we're talking at cross purposes. I don't care about the hello world template aspect of this, I care about having a better default Maven template as a whole (eg. pom changes discussed in relation to --release hint). Bringing things in line with the Gradle project behaviour would remove the problematic template completely. That's for NB17 discussion.
