GitHub user mhalachev added a comment to the discussion: Upcoming macOS app
icon changes

That’s a very good observation — indeed, the Unix launcher script in NetBeans
explicitly replaces the Dock icon at launch, even if macOS has already applied
its own tinted or liquid glass styling without an `Assets.car`. So simply
including the compiled assets inside the app bundle does not appear to take
effect.

It might be worth investigating how the JVM handles Dock icon overrides, and
whether this behaviour can be adjusted to let macOS manage the styling
natively. Looking into how Electron-based apps such as Visual Studio Code
handle their icon logic could also provide some insights.

The article mentioned above offers a good overview of this topic, including how
toolchains like Electron and Tauri integrate Apple’s new asset formats. It’s an
interesting area to explore, especially since there are applications built on
the NetBeans Platform that may use their own custom icons.
