calendar, public iCalendars are readable without authentication (those are
public), you will get asked to provide user and pass if you try to modify them.
In the case of private iCalendars you will naturally get asked to authenticate
for reading too.
The event should be shown in Thunderbird Lightning after you have created it
(and in the OFBiz calendar) provided that you authenticated correctly, check
that the Calendar subscription doesn't have any errors on it.
