Went ahead and pushed the `finalize_timing_payload` fix onto the two consumers we talked about (`/api/v1/query/` and the samples endpoint), so the internal sentinel gets stripped there instead of leaking when the flag's off. Added a `get_samples` regression test for it too, and left the chart-data path untouched. CI's running on it now... holler if you'd rather I hadn't jumped in.
