looking in more detail, i found some subtle differences that made
merging them trickier than expected.
please instead consider v3 of "mixed-up messages" and v2 of this "skip
protected header legacy display parts" series, both of which depend on
the "setup for message repair" series (found at
id:20190531074027.16337-1-...@fifthhorseman.net).
